This Markforged Desktop Series Plastic Extruder is a genuine replacement part. It is compatible with the Onyx One, Onyx Pro and Mark Two as well as the previous Mark Two Standard, Professional and Enterprise models.

What does the plastic extruder do?

The plastic extruder is what the onyx passes through when printing is in progress. For printers except the Onyx One, this is in tandem with the fibre extruder to add even more strength and durability to your parts. The Onyx One cannot print with additional fibre, but onyx has chopped carbon fibre inbuilt so parts printed on this are still incredibly strong compared to ABS and Nylon.

When should I replace the plastic extruder?

You will need to replace your plastic extruder if your existing one fails, or if the performance of the extruder starts to degrade. Markforged 3D printers are actually very reliable and dependable machines, however part breakdowns do happen. Markforged offers a very good 1-year warranty on parts with the Desktop Series, however if your plastic extruder breaks down not as a result of a manufacturing defect, you will not be covered by the standard warranty.
