3D Platform has announced an all-new 3D printer for engineers, product developers and manufacturers. It’s called the 3DP Workbench, and it’s a very different take on 3D printing compared to the company’s other printer, the 3DP1000.
The 3DP Workbench is the first 3D printer to have a workbench built into its design. An all-in-one 3D printer for designers and manufacturers, the printer sits atop an industrial-grade workbench complete with a solid hardwood working area, and lots of drawers for tools and a cabinet for your printing supplies.
As you can see in the image to your right, the bench is a lot narrower than the printer, boosting its potential application. On the new design, John Good, VP of sales and marketing at 3D Platform, said: "The Workbench Series is more than just another 3D printer, it has been designed through a professional user-experience process - with input from engineers, product developers and top creative talent around the world - incorporating tools they need to take our platform to the next level. The result is a comprehensive tool kit that increases capacity, enables them to expand their capabilities and bring their ideas to life.” Here's everything you need to know about the 3DP Workbench:
Print BIG without sacrificing accuracy
With the same 1 metre x 1 metre x 0.5 metre (950 x 850 x 500mm or 37.4 x 33.5 x 19.6 in) build area as the enormous 3DP1000, the 3DP Workbench has a 74x larger build area than the average desktop 3D printer. You can easily print large full scale prototypes such as engine blocks in one sitting, and the printer’s industrial strength mechatronics are designed to print down to a 70 micron resolution, so not only can you print big, but you can print accurately too.
Open source filament system
The 3DP Workbench has an open filament system meaning you can use whatever filaments you like from whatever manufacturers you choose. The 3D Platform Workbench can print PLA, HIPS, Nylon, PVA and ABS and by capitalising on the open filament market, you can keep your manufacturing costs right down. 3D Platform estimates that you can realise cost savings of 90 percent versus a 3D printer with a proprietary filament system.
SurePrint Servo Technology
3D Platform released their SurePrint Servo Motor upgrade for the 3DP1000 back in January but the 3DP Workbench comes with it as standard. SurePrint Servo Technology offers faster print speeds without sacrificing accuracy. The Servo motors generate around 85 percent more torque than 3DP’s standard stepper motors, enabling faster acceleration and deceleration during the printing process. The result is a wickedly fast industrial 3D Printer that delivers on quality.
The most usable 3D Platform printer, ever
The 3DP Workbench has been designed with the user and the future in mind. You can use your Android tablet or smartphone to remotely monitor and control the printing process, and additional features such as encoders that sense filament flow and under-gantry LED lights that enhance visibility add up to make the Workbench the most usable 3D Platform printer, ever. The Workbench also has auto bed levelling and resume from Z on paused prints.
Easy to install and set up
The 3DP Workbench might be a large 3D printer, but it’s built up in parts on site so it can be installed practically anywhere. The printer itself has a folding gantry so it fits through a standard door with ease and the bench is built up on site. Installing the printer onto the bench is simply a case of screwing it down. Set up is also easy – the 3DP Workbench comes with everything you need to get started 3D printing including installation and training (mainland UK only).
The 3DP Workbench isn’t just a 3D printer – it’s an all-in-one 3D printer for industrial applications. It offers a solid hardwood working area as well as a built-in storage area complete with drawers and cabinets. The printer itself sits atop the workbench with all key electronics hidden away underneath. A chunky control unit can be found on the solid hardwood work area complete with a digital display that shows print progress and this lets you control the print process.
The 3DP Workbench is scheduled for full release by the end of Q1, 2016. To find out more about availability and pricing, give our team a call on 01765 540 115 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
